What does a typical day look like on a six-day rafting trip with Adventure Sun Valley?
While every trip is a little different, life on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River quickly settles into a rhythm that guests come to love.
Morning on the River
The day usually begins with the soft light of sunrise illuminating the canyon walls. Coffee is ready, breakfast is cooking, and the sound of the river provides the perfect wake-up call.
After a hearty breakfast, guests pack up their gear while guides prepare the rafts. Before long, everyone is back on the water.
Midday Adventures
The morning often brings some of the river’s most exciting rapids. Guests paddle through wave trains, splash through clear mountain water, and celebrate together at the bottom of each run.
Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and explore:
-
Natural hot springs
-
Short hikes to scenic viewpoints
-
Historic homesteads from early settlers
-
Swimming holes and sandy beaches
Every day feels like its own adventure.
Afternoon Relaxation
As the day continues, the pace slows. Some guests choose to paddle in an inflatable kayak while others relax and take in the scenery from the raft.
Wildlife sightings are common—bighorn sheep, bald eagles, deer, and more.
The river continues to wind deeper into the wilderness of the Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness.
Evenings at Camp
By late afternoon, camp appears around a bend in the river. While guests unwind in camp chairs or explore the beach, the guides get to work preparing dinner.
Evenings are often the highlight of the trip:
-
Fresh appetizers and drinks
-
Incredible riverside dinners
-
Campfires and storytelling
-
A night sky filled with stars
It’s the perfect way to end another unforgettable day on the Middle Fork.
