KATE MIDDLETON

KATE MIDDLETON

GUIDE

Hi! My name is Kate, and I am from Big Sky, Montana. As a girl, the river outside my back door was a source of play and curiosity; in the summer, my sister and I swam, skipped stones and floated. In the winter, we walked its frozen path and constructed ice hockey rinks. By foot or boat, frozen or flooded, I’ve always found myself drawn to rivers, to live besides, play on, work and study. After 18 years out west, I headed to Maine for college and graduated from Bates College in 2023 with a degree in Environmental Studies and a focus in policy and law – a degree that allowed me to study the dimensions and complex political, environmental and personal intersections of the wild places I love most, like the Middle Fork. When I’m not on the river, you will most likely find me skiing, reading, studying Hindi or working through my prerequisites for grad school.

I’ve guided commercially for the past four year on stretches of river across Montana and Idaho. My first summer guiding for Adventure Sun Valley was 2023 and I feel so lucky to be heading back to the Middle Fork this summer. Hope to see you there!
